Before the first time

Before using your Mini Segway UK for the first time, you should fully charge the battery. In the delivery state, you cannot know exactly whether the battery is empty, half full, or full. The Mini Segway only achieves its full performance and full range when the battery is fully charged. That’s why you should be on the safe side here and first connect the hoverboard to the network before using it for the first time.

The best place for a first time

You should choose a suitable place for your first “attempts” with the Segway. If you have enough space in your apartment or house, you can start indoors. Otherwise, we would advise looking for a place outside.

If you’re starting indoors, be sure to secure any valuable items. So you’d better put the expensive vase that grandma gave you in the closet. You shouldn’t start on the carpet. It is better if you choose a smooth floor covering such as tiles or laminate. You should start near a wall. The wall can still offer you support at the beginning.

If you have decided to go outside, you should look for a place that offers a smooth surface. Smooth asphalt or even large smooth cobblestones without deep grooves are perfect. If you are ascending for the first time, it can be helpful if you have a railing nearby to lean on. Possibly a friend can help you the first few times.

Get on the hoverboard

Especially when getting on, it can be very unsettling at the beginning that the hoverboards are basically a Segway UK without a pole. You have nothing to hold on to. That’s why we would like to give you a few tips that will guarantee you a safe ascent.

To level up, stand behind the hoverboard. Then you put your strong foot first on the platform and immediately pull the second foot after it. Make sure that you position your feet correctly, as changing position later is relatively difficult due to the anti-slip coating.

There is a trick to finding out which foot is your strongest: Stand with both feet next to each other. Ask a friend to gently push you from behind at an unexpected moment. The foot you step forward with is your strong foot.

In the beginning, it will still feel very wobbly on the board. But after a few tries, you’ll get used to the movement and it will become more and more fluid until you eventually do it without even thinking about it.

Accelerating and braking

Lean forward to accelerate; lean backward to brake. If you continue to lean back after the board has come to a standstill, the hoverboard will begin to reverse.

It is common for most people to lean forward too much and then accelerate unexpectedly quickly. Therefore, you should make sure at the beginning that you only lean slightly forward. It can help that you only imagine it at first. Just the imagination is enough for the body to lean slightly forward. Once you get a feel for the acceleration, you can slowly increase it.

To steer

The steering also works by shifting your weight. Many do it intuitively at first. BTW, different hoverboards differ in their steering behavior. Some steer more precisely than others.

The shifting of weight when steering works in such a way that you put weight on the opposite leg. So if you want to make a left turn, you put your weight on your right leg.

dismount

To get off the hoverboard, first, bring it to a standstill. Then you quickly put one foot down and transfer your weight completely to that foot and at the same time take your other foot off the board.

It is important that the other foot is not on the board for too long and also that it is not loaded. Otherwise, the board could take a curve due to this one-sided load.

Again, practice makes perfect. After a few successful attempts, this movement will become more and more familiar until you can finally perform it fully automatically and without thinking about it.
