WHO WAS THE FIRST SAMSUNG VIRTUAL ASSISTANT
S Voice was the first Samsung virtual assistant integrated into their smartphones in 2012. This built-in software would use natural language UI to answer queries and had limited features such as making appointments, setting up alarms, and opening apps, as well as some more features.
S voice had limited features compared to Bixby, which is still used in new Samsung models; moreover, S voice was a third-party software according to the company and was discontinued in June 2020 as Bixby replaced it.
IS BIXBY GOING TO BE REPLACED?
Before discussing the details of Samsung Virtual Assistant-Bixby, let’s discuss Bixby. It is the first virtual assistant developed by Samsung, as the previous one was not their own; instead, it was provided by a third party. Samsung made a major announcement in May 2017 by replacing S voice with Bixby. It was initially integrated into refrigerators making it the first virtual assistant to be installed in any non-mobile electronic category.
It was 29 March 2018 when Samsung announced the introduction of Bixby in Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+; however, it was officially unveiled, by Samsung, a week before the introduction of these two models. By the end of the same year, the company released Bixby 2.0 in San Francisco at the annual developer conference.
More interestingly, it can also be sideloaded in older Galaxy models running Android Nougat; moreover, new speculations arose last year when a Brazilian company called Light frame and Cheil- a marketing firm, posted photos of a 3D fake human virtual assistant on social media. This virtual human assistant was called Samsung Sam, also known as Samantha.
The reason why it was associated with Samsung is that Cheil is a marketing firm owned by Samsung. In the next section, we will talk further about Samsung Sam- a new future Samsung Virtual Assistant.
SAMSUNG SAM- THE BEGINNING OF A NEW ERA FOR ELECTRONIC GIANTS
Within just a week after posting a few photos of Samsung Sam on social media, it became a media sensation for three significant reasons, I.e., gorgeous blue eyes, bob haircut, and sleek slim body. Initially, Samsung did not recognize Samantha officially; however, later, they said that it would not replace Bixby.
Many people were curious to know about Samsung’s virtual assistant as it attracted a large number of people since the company had once replaced their intelligent phones’ virtual assistant, who is why it was highly expected to bring Samsung Sam in place of Bixby. Another reason why people thought it was going to replace Bixby was that it is not as famous as Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa, and Google’s Google Assistant; moreover, it didn’t have many fans following, and it was expected to be replaced because Samsung company is well known for the innovation they bring in their products.
The Samantha is a collection of 3D extracted phantasmagorias that is a maven in using Samsung products and features, more specifically on their smartphones. In the beginning, it was not designed as an alternative to endorse Samsung products; on the contrary, it was designed to explain products and their features and to show what a human form virtual assistant would look like.
The attention-grabbing fact is that it was primarily intended in 2D by Lightfarm; however, they did not vitrine it at that time; though, after its remodeling, the company published a few of its images on social media and engrossed a vast number of consumers as a result of its striking looks. As you can expect, it was not loved by the fans for the purpose it was designed.
Samsung virtual assistant/virtual human assistant continued to apprehend people’s hearts, particularly generation Z, and, no doubt, will continue the same way nonentity vanishes from the internet.
In some portions of the world, phony humans are used as an alternative to real ones for the numerous ins and outs and are much prevalent, for example, Alexa, Google Assistant, or Siri. With the same perception in mind, the company planned Samantha, which netted the minds of millions of individuals. Some people rumored that it’s aimed as a replacement for Bixby – an anonymous Samsung virtual assistant; But it would be premature to conclude that; however, in the future, nobody knows as anything is possible, and the company might decide to replace it with Bixby.
