Before going into the details of Oculus casting (Quest 2), I would like to share knowledge regarding its history and background as it is one of the most advanced VR headsets designed by Oculus, which they released on May 21, 2019.
In 2016 Oculus connected 3, the CEO of Meta Inc., Mark Zuckerberg, announced that Oculus was working on an advanced VR headset, and at that time, they coded it as “Santa Cruz.” Similarly, in the next year, while at Oculus Connect four, they shared information about releasing software and other equipment for their previous VR headset models.
In 2018 at Oculus Connect 5, they officially stated that the new VR headset would be called “Oculus Quest“, and the pricing was decided to be $399 for 64GB headset, whereas for 128GB, the price was $499. In 2020 the company released another headset that is the most advanced headset ever made by the company.
These times the prices were relatively lower as compared to Oculus quest 1. Oculus quest 2 was priced at $299 for 64 GB editions, and for the 128 GB version, the price was $399.
OCULUS QUEST 2 SPECIFICATIONS
Oculus Quest is undoubtedly one of the company’s most advanced VR headsets ever released; however, there are speculations regarding the release of its 3rd version that would lead to the position of the most advanced VR headset ever developed by the company.
The most unconventional headset uses “Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC (system-on-chip)” with 4 GB RAM. Among four 2.3 GHz CPU chip cores, three are designed for software, and the rest are reserved for tracking background functions and motions. You will need a smartphone to set it up for the first time as it has an operating system based on Android.
The display in each eye has a resolution of 1440 × 1600 with a refresh frequency of 71 GHz; furthermore, with IDP adjustments, Oculus quest uses “next generation” technology that the company primarily introduced in Oculus Go. With these and many other features, it has become a fan-favorite headset.
LEARN OCULUS CASTING WITH A TV
Oculus casting is an excellent option as it allows others to see what you see in the quest. Here, you will learn all the steps to Oculus casting. Remember that you can get casting done in two ways, one is via the device, and the other way is using your smartphone.
Oculus casting using the device will require you to turn on both the TV and headset and then wear it. Remember that connecting both devices to the same Wi-Fi network is essential; otherwise, you won’t be able to cast your quest (both quests 1 and 2). Most TVs have built-in Chromecast, but if you don’t have one, you can purchase it from the market and connect it to your TV.
- Click “share”, which is shown on the main panel that appears like a curved arrow.
- Here, you only need to click “Cast.”
- Here you will encounter a list of devices you can pair to (if there are many), and you need to choose the one you want to connect your device.
After successfully connecting your device to the TV, you will see a red dot on the right side of the headset’s view. This red dot appears in two cases. One is when you connect it to other devices such as smartphones, TVs, or smart screens.
You need to follow the mentioned below steps to connect your headset with a TV using a smartphone.
By downloading and using the “Quest app,” you can connect and control your headset with a TV. If you are unfamiliar with oculus casting using your headset, this is the easiest method for you, and it can get your job done with just a few clicks.
A few protocols you need to follow to connect your headset with a TV are listed below.
- Connect the headset and intelligence to the same Wi-Fi before using the Quest app.
- Download, install, and sign in to the app using your account
- Make sure the Wi-Fi connection is stable.
Now to connect the headset with the TV for Oculus casting, you need to open the app and follow the steps mentioned below.
- Click on the cast button that appears with a headset and Wi-Fi icon in the upper right corner of the app interface.
- Click “Allow” to search for all available devices and then navigate to the one you want to connect to.
- Now that you found and connected to the device you want to stream, tap the “Start” button.
Following these three steps, you can easily connect your VR headset with any device you want using your smartphone. You can also stop streaming or Oculus casting using the same app with only a few clicks.
To stop streaming, open the same app, click Share, then click cast; we show you the option of “stop casting.” By clicking on it, the devices you were streaming to will not be able to remain connected to your device, and so there won’t be any Quest casting.
QUEST CASTING TO OTHER DEVICES
Remember that you can connect your quest to various other devices, apart from TVs that include PC, smartphones, and all other devices that support Chromecast devices. This section will teach you how to connect quests to PCs and Smartphones.
To connect your headset to a PC for quest casting, you can either use chrome or edge to visit the “Meta Oculus Casting Page”, where you can log in to your account. After logging in, you need to open the universal menu and follow the below-mentioned steps while putting on your headset.
- Click sharing
- Click cast
- Click computer
- Click next
- Click done
If you want quest casting to an “Amazon Fire Stick,” you must download a third-party app such as AirScreen. Once you download and open the app, tap “Start” and wait until it syncs devices; after that, you need to follow the below-mentioned steps.
- Put on the headset
- Tap sharing
- Tap “start headset casting.”
