Lifeguard and swimming is good for you
If you are prone to injury or, like me, can’t practice every sport, it’s better to dive into the pool and try lap swimming. It makes your body strong (and slim!) and it has even more lifeguard certification near me benefits. For example, swimming helps to relieve stress and to relax more. A few advantages at a glance:
Less chance of injuries
This of course has to do with the weightlessness and the way you lie in the water.
High calorie burn
You burn about 500 calories per hour with quiet jobs. If you turn the pace up a notch, you will soon reach 700 plus calories. See, that ticks.
Workout at the same time
Swimming is a combination of endurance sports and high resistance training. Especially if you are going to use accessories that you see a lot with the more professional swimmer. With fins for legs and hands you push away more water and you work on stronger muscles.
Total workout. What I find a funny experience after a solid session of swimming is that you do not notice that you are sweating, but that after 40 minutes of swimming I come out of the pool with a red head that then starts to sweat.
You stay young longer
Research (Indiana University Center for the Science of Swimming) has shown that people who swim a lot stay young longer. This has to do with the performance of a number of bodily functions such as blood pressure, cholesterol level, heart and blood vessels and cognitive functions. Fifty-year-old swimmers had the same functions as someone twenty years younger.
Swimming is good for the muscles
If, like me, you have rheumatism or other muscle-related complaints such as RSI and back problems, swimming is the solution for responsible sports. Muscles are strengthened and the body relaxes during swimming. For people with rheumatism it is important to keep moving. The pain also decreases.
I was surprised by the meditative and relaxing effect of swimming. It’s you and your stroke. The way you move your body, trying to perfect the front crawl and breathing.

Needless to say, regular sporty swimming will make you lose weight. You lose weight from more sports, but if you want to lose kilos then you will have to do endurance sports and then you will be in the row of running , cycling and swimming. You can quickly burn a lot of calories with swimming (see point 1), and it helps enormously to have the right swim gear .
Combine with other sports
Speedo has recently started looking for a combination with other sports. As it turns out, swimming can work really well for other sports like running, cycling, and yoga.
If we highlight yoga: due to the various yoga poses that require a lot of muscles and core, swimming helps with muscle strengthening so that you can complete your yoga rhythm more easily and with more preparation. For example, training schedules have been developed that focus on shoulder, hip, leg and core strengthening.
